Asprin was discovered in 1897 by scientists at the drug and dye company Bayer. The Bayer company began investigating acetylsalicylic acid as a less-irritating replacement for standard common salicylate medicines. By 1899, Bayer had dubbed the drug Aspirin and was selling it around the world as a non-irritating replacement to the standard salicylate drug.
