The occurance of Typhus was common during the Industrial Revolution. Charles Jules Henery Nicolle discovered how Typhus was spread in 1909. He discovered how it is carried from rats to fleas, then to humans. Typhus also spread due to very poor hygiene. There are many types of Typhus. One type of Typhus is epidemic/louse-borne typhus (caused by Rickettsia prowazekii) carried by the body’s louse. Another type of Typhus is murine typhus (caused by R.typhi) carried by the rat or cat flea. The last type of Typhus is scrub typhus (caused by Orientia tsutsugsmushi) carried by mites.
